Advanced Technology That Offers Patient Comfort and Convenience
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a safe, totally painless way for your physician to look into your body. The pictures created during the exam look at the soft tissue and provide information that can improve the diagnosis. For patients who may require an MRI, Bone & Joint Surgery Associates, S.C. offers the convenience of an in-office extremity MRI. This eliminates the delays in diagnosis and treatment that occurs when trying to schedule the exam at another imaging center. In addition, the open design of the extremity MRI offers a less claustrophobic and more comfortable alternative to traditional full-body MRIs, while still providing high quality images.

What is MR imaging?

MRI is a way of looking inside the body without x-rays. The exam uses radiowaves and a magnetic field to create images of the soft tissues of the body. These images are then transferred onto an x-ray film so the doctor can interpret them.

How is the MRI performed?
You will lie comfortably on an exam table and be asked to place your arm, leg or shoulders in a coil inside the magnet. Your head and body will remain outside the magnet. The technologist will comfortably position you on the exam table and ask you to remain still during the exam. The complete exam will take approximately 60 minutes.
